SXT-53'-Reefer-Container-detail

In late January 2016 ScaleTrains announced the planned production of a group of HO and N scale 53′ CIMC Reefer Containers.  Overland Hobbies is pleased to offer these models for pre-order at this time.  Check out the model and prototype photos below.  The reefer containers are expected in July or August of 2016.  Pre-orders are requested by February 26, 2016.  You may submit your pre-orders by following the model specific links below each model image or e-mail brian@overlandhobbies.com with a list of products and your contact details.

The production will include the following paint schemes:

  • Canadian National / CARGO COOL
  • CR England Tempstack
  • J.B. Hunt Intermodal
  • J.B. Hunt
  • J.B. Hunt ‘How cool is that?’
  • Quicktrax
  • Tiger Cool Express

This is a perfect opportunity to build in some new life to your modern intermodal trains with this sharp looking reefer containers.  Intermodal trains easily handle a couple hundred containers so why not mix in a number of these reefer container models to add some variety and character to your train?

For HO scale modelers ScaleTrains is offering the reefer containers as three-packs and singles with sound.  Note the J.B. Hunt ‘How cool is that?’ reefer is only available as a single container with sound.

The HO scale containers that are sold individually will be equipped with a sound unit powered by a 9 volt DC battery that will be customer supplied.  The sound will be from a recording made of a Thermo-King refrigeration unit.  The sound containers will have a pair of buttons on the underside of the container.  One button will turn the sound on/ off.  The other button will be used to increase and decrease the sound by pressing the button a number of times to increase the sound by preset sound levels.

For N scale modelers ScaleTrains is offer the reefer containers as three-packs and singles without sound.

The containers will be a welcome addition to modern era modelers as they have not been mass produced by any other company to date.  The reefers feature a Thermo King refrigeration unit on the front end with the proper cage detail and fuel tank.  The containers are stackable and compatible with other containers, well cars and chassis models already on the market.

The pre-production models look great and feature a group of colorful paint schemes found on todays premium intermodal trains.

Below I will share pre-production model views of each of the HO scale ScaleTrains CIMC reefer containers and pair them up with prototype views.  The model photos are made by Overland Hobbies and the prototype images are from either myself or by my friend Steven Hunt from Southern California that enjoys photographing intermodal trains and trucks.
